Bentota is a town of Sri Lanka overlooking the river Bentota to its south. The word Bentota is given to this area from a classic fables story where Bem, a demon ruled over the river bank which is called as tota. Bentota is also one of the major tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, Bentota is also world-famous for Ayurveda Salva, resorts, alcoholic coconut drinks and toddy. Other touristry places include Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, Brief Garden and Buddhist temples. The coastal breeze and thick greens makes this place worth visiting. Bentota Bazaar, a local market is one of the most visited places by travellers from where they carry souvenirs like textiles, carvings and brassware.
