The town of Hambantota lies at the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka in its Southern Province. Since the Tsunami destroyed the region in the year 2004, Hambantota is emerging and developing each passing day. In ancient times, the town was known for its fertile lands and extremely good irrigation system and it was also referred by other names such as Dolos dahas rata, Ruhuna and Mahagama.
